THE ORIGINAL GAME

Pay $1 to see how many people paid $1. (Still true.)

This website started with one sentence: pay $1 to see how many people paid $1. That was the whole product. There was a button, a checkout page, and on the other side, a number.

People paid. Not a stampede, but a steady line of the curious, each handing over a dollar to learn how many others had done the exact same thing. The number went up by one every time, which was sort of the point.

What changed

The number got company. Everyone who pays now gets a row on a public leaderboard, with a title and a link, ranked by how much they have paid in total. Pay more and you climb. The people who paid back when it was only a number are on the board too, listed as early payers until they come back and put a name on their spot.

What didn’t

It still costs a dollar, and the dollar still buys the answer. Pay at least $1 and you see how many people have paid and how much was paid altogether. Visitors who haven’t paid see the top of the board with every amount blacked out, and no count.

You also see amounts, with a catch: only those of people who paid the same as you or less. The original question was “how many?” The new one is “how much did the person above me pay?”, and that one costs more than a dollar to answer.

Questions

How many people paid a dollar?
More than thirty, which is as far as the public board goes. The exact number is shown to anyone who has paid at least $1.
Is it really just a dollar?
One dollar is the minimum. You can pay more if you want a higher rank.
I paid a dollar before there was a leaderboard. Am I on it?
Yes. Sign in with the email you paid with and you’ll find your spot, your rank, and a form to give it a title and link.
